Trump card with silent voters in Canacona

CANACONA: Pleased with the turnout at the polls on Saturday, virtually all candidates in Canacona constituency exuded confidence of their victory.

Congress candidate Isidore Fernandes said a split in non-secular votes between the BJP, MGP and an independent candidate would help maintain the secular voters bank, thereby ensuring his victory in the contest.

“In addition, some dadagiri and threats to voters from some rival camps in municipal areas will also compel many of the silent voters in those areas to vote in favour of me,” Isidore said.

BJP candidate Vijay Poi Khot claimed that the maximum voting pattern in Gaondongrim and Khotigao would go in his favor. “More importantly, there was no division of BJPs traditional vote bank, and I will win these polls with a far better margin,” said Khot.

Independent candidate Ramesh Tawadkar was also confident of securing a large number of votes to secure his win.

“I expect over 70 per cent votes in some booths and 50 per cent of votes in other booths, which will seal my victory. People are voting for me on account of BJP's injustice in denying me the party ticket. Even the silent voters will be in my favour on account of my continuous contact with the people. No one is interested in openly aligning with the BJP or Congress and so, the people have preferred to be silent. But I know they are with me,” said a confident Tawadkar.

AAP Candidate Sandesh Telekar informed The Goan that people had voted today for a change and to get rid of old faces.

“People have voted against old faces and in favour of a good and permanent change. The silent votes will be in good numbers and will go in our favour. More youth should come forward and lead this State for better future,” said Telekar

Despite several efforts, MGP candidate Gourish Bandekar could not be contacted for comments on his assessment of the polls in Canacona constituency.
