Anita Salgaonkar has been elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Tuem.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Sulaksha Naik as per a mutual agreement among the ruling panchas.
At a special meeting to elect a sarpanch on Wednesday, Salgaonkar was the only candidate to file a nomination and she was elected unopposed.
Deputy Sarpanch Manohar Pednekar, and other panchas were present on this occasion.
Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar later met and greeted Salgaonkar, while assuring her of support from him and the State government.
Speaking to reporters, Salgaonkar said she would work to develop the entire Tuem village without any difference or discrimination. She called upon villagers to cooperate with the panchayat in development works, which would be accelerated with the support of the MLA.
