the goan I networkMARGAOIn an interesting development, Special Public Prosecutor in the Louis Berger bribery scandal case, Adv Rajiv Gomes has withdrawn himself from the case following the government s decision to transfer his Portuguese nationality case from the Margao police station to the Crime branch.Adv Gomes told The Goan that he had no option than to submit his withdrawal application in the Louis Berger case to the Superintendent of police, Crime Branch after he came to know from the Margao police that the Portuguese nationality case has been transferred to the Crime branch. “How can I continue to represent the Crime branch in the Louis Berger case when the same Investigating agency is now probing into my Portuguese nationality case. In conformity with the ethical standards of my profession, and to facilitate a just and fair probe as well as to dispel any element of suspicion in the investigation due to my status as special public prosecutor of Crime branch, I have withdrawn my appearance as the special public prosecutor in the Louis Berger case,” Adv Gomes told The Goan.He pointed out that he has returned copies of the charge sheet to the Crime branch along with his letter of withdrawal. He, however, pointed out that he would appear for the crime branch when the matter comes up before the Special Judge on Saturday and draw attention of the Judge to his decision to withdraw from the case.In his letter to the Crime Branch SP, Adv Gomes has requested to direct the investigating office for an expeditious investigation and bring out the truth into the case filed against him.Sources in the know said the Margao police had transferred the Portuguese nationality case registered against Adv Gomes on Monday upon receiving a note from the Crime branch. The government had appointed Adv Gomes as the Special Public Prosecutor at the height of the Louis Berger bribery scandal that hit the state involving former Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat, former PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao and senior PWD officials.
