Two acquitted in murder case at Ambelim

The South Goa Sessions Court on Wednesday acquitted Jaffer Mulla and Abdul Hussain Sayed in the 2013 murder case at Ambelim. rnThe duo were acquitted by Additional Sessions Judge, Sherin Paul, after the prosecution failed to prove their guilt.

The two accused were represented by Adv Rajiv Gomes, while public prosecutor Subhash Desai appeared for the state. The third accused was earlier discharged by the court. In this case, the Cuncolim police had charged the accused for the murder of 27-year old Vijai Pujar, a native of Karnataka. Pujar was assaulted with an iron pipe, saw mill blade and a laterite stone. His body was later dumped in river Sal to destroy evidence.   
The prosecution had examined 17 witnesses in support of its case.

Youth urged to come and take over UGDP leadership

Ahead of the party general body meeting scheduled on July 29, the United Goans Democratic Party on Wednesday appealed to the youth to come forward to join the party, even as its Secretary General Adv Anacleto Viegas reiterated that the party leadership did not hand over the party to Santa Cruz legislator Babush Monserrate since they did not want to sell their souls.
