Vasco Saptah: Mormugao Dy Collector convene meeting of stakeholders

VASCO

Mormugao DySP Suchita Desai has asked Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to start processing licences so that police verification of the vendors for the Lord Damodar Saptah fair can be done well in advance.

She was speaking at the meeting convened by Mormugao Deputy Collector Gaurish Shankwalkar on Thursday. The meeting of all the stakeholders was convened to chalk out plans to tackle law and order problems during the seven days of the Saptah.

During the meeting, Shankwalkar directed health officers to process NOCs to the eateries so that MMC can issue licences well in advance. He told the stakeholders that the Saptah fair will start from August 7 and will last for seven days.

“The Swantantra Path road will be thrown open for vehicular movement on August 15 morning,” he added.

Mormugao DySP Suchita Desai asked the council to start processing licences so that police verification of the vendors can be done well in advance.

“We will be occupied with assembly work and the police will find it difficult to give clearances to the vendors if the council delays in issuing the necessary licences,” he said.

Speaking on movement of heavy traffic, MMC chairperson Deepak Naik pointed out that other than petroleum tankers, other heavy traffic will be stopped from entering and exiting the city from August 7 night to August 9 evening.

On the opening of the ring road from Khariwada, Shankwalkar directed the municipal staff to clear the encroachments on the road to divert port-related heavy traffic.

Shankwalkar directed the officials from Vasco traffic cell, RTO and MMC to remain present at his office to carry out site inspection of the ring road on July 26.

He also requested the health and fire service officials to keep ambulances and fire tenders ready to tackle any untoward situation during the seven days of Saptah fair.

Speaking to The Goan, Shankwalkar said the meeting was convened to chalk out plans to tackle law and order problems during the seven days. “Officials from navy, traffic, Vasco police, RTO, electricity, PWD and health departments were called for the meeting for smooth functioning of the seven-day fair,” he said.

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida also attended the meeting.
