In the wake of recent allegations that certain policemen, upon being transferred to their new place of posting have either not been relieved or have failed to assume their new posting, a recent incident involving two constables at the Calangute Police Station has surfaced.
The circumstances surrounding Akash Naik and Ganpat Tilogi, continued duty at Calangute PS remain unclear, but sources confirmed to The Goan that they are actively performing their duties along the coastal belt as usual.
About a fortnight ago, the department transferred Naik to Fatorda PS and Tilogi to Cuncolim PS which incidentally came following allegations that both colluded with a businessman to engage in illicit activities including running illegal gambling operations and issuing threats to one Manoj Singh and his family.
Ironically, both are ‘temporarily attached’ to the PS and despite the present order dated September 7 from the Office of the Director General of Police, both have been retained at their present posting.
The order, signed by Superintendent of Police (HQ) Nelson Albuquerque, ordered to relieve both constables from their current posts immediately.
Sources indicated that while Naik was on night duty from 8 pm on Tuesday until 8 am on Wednesday at Calangute-Baga stretch, Tilogi took over the duty for the subsequent 12 hours.
“We are not sure if these constables are stationed at their current posting due to staff shortages or if the higher-ranking officers at police headquarters are aware of the situation,” a police official, posted at the Calangute PS said, wishing anonymity.
In what could further leave the department in a tight spot, Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh had issued an order on August 2 directing all policemen, who have been transferred to move to their new postings immediately.
