Two diocesan priests belonging to the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman passed away in the State within a gap of three days.
Fr Joao Manuel Dias (72) passed away at his residence in Cortalim on May 17 and was laid to rest in the Cortalim cemetery the next day.
Fr Dias was ordained a priest in 1975 and went on to serve in the office of the Chancery at the Bishop’s House and later as assistant parish priest in Navelim.
Fr Dias then went to the USA and served there till his return to Goa in 2016 and he was residing at his house in Cortalim.
Fr Santana Carvalho (73) passed away in the Clergy Home at Porvorim on Wednesday night and was laid to rest on Thursday.
Hailing from Vasco, Fr Carvalho was ordained in 1975 and served as assistant parish priest in Navelim, Nuvem and Loutolim.
He was also appointed prefect of Rachol Seminary and chaplain at Ilha de Rachol, before serving as parish priest at Agonda, Benaulim (Holy Trinity Church), Velim, Pomburpa and Socorro.
On account of poor health, Fr Carvalho was relieved as parish priest at Socorro in March and he had been residing in the Clergy Home at Porvorim, where he breathed his last.
