Panaji District and Sessions Court has sentenced Tarzan Parsekar (27) and Sarvesh Parsekar (23) of Arraiswado, Nagoa, to five years rigorous imprisonment for committing a premeditated attempt to murder Abhay Gawas (38).
The chargesheet submitted by Anjuna Police in the matter states that on November 8, 2013, at around 7.15 pm, both the accused sourced a sword and a hockey stick and assaulted Gawas with the intention to kill him.
As per the statement of the victim, he arrived at his residence in his car, a Maruti Alto and saw that a cycle was parked in his way. As he stopped the car, he saw a group of seven to eight young men and one of them came to take aside the cycle,. A few moments later, Sarvesh approached the car and began verbally abusing Gawas,
who was still seated in the driver’s seat.
Accused Sarvesh then broke the window glasses of the car with a sword. At this point, accused Tarzan approached the vehicle, took the sword and began attacking Gawas on his face and neck.
As a result, Gawas lost four teeth and his left hand thumb was amputated from the body. He sustained grievous injuries on his face, chest, left hand and other parts of his body. Both the accused also punched and kicked him and caused major damages to his four-wheeler, a Maruti Alto car.
Gawas’s sister-in-law, Dipti Gawas lodged a complaint in the matter at Anjuna Police Station. She had alighted from the car moments before the attack occurred and hence, was an eyewitness.
Based on the complaint, sub-inspector Ramchandra Shinde registered an offence against Tarzan and Sarvesh under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 25 and 27 of Arms Act, 1959. The accused were arrested on November 18, 2013 and were later released on conditional bail.
The chargesheet was filed against the duo on January 8, 2014 before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa.
