Mapusa Police arrested two persons from Uttar Pradesh on charges of circulating counterfeit currency notes and seized 12 fake notes in denomination of Rs 1,000 on Saturday.
One Raju Khan (28) was arrested post mid-night Friday from Mapusa market and his accomplice Khudbusab Nadaf (27) was arrested on Saturday afternoon. Both were temporarily residing in Calangute, police informed.
Some market vendors noticed a man moving suspiciously in the market at around 11 pm on Friday. They immediately informed the police who picked him up and after a search and interrogation found 12 fake notes of Rs 1,000 on his person.
He also disclosed the name of his accomplice during the interrogation.
Police have booked an offence under Section 489 IPC against both the accused.
