MAPUSA
According to sources, Saurabh Gupta (11) and Krishna Nishad (9) of Ganganagar-Khorlim along with friends had gone to the Sankhleshwar spring at Khorlim after attending the Independence day programme in their school. They reached the spring at about 12.30 pm when no one was around.
Sources informed that Gupta and Nishad dived in the spring, which was about 4 meters deep. Since the deceased couldn’t make out the depth of the spring, they started drowning.
Sources said one of their friends noticed them drowning and raised an alarm. The residents staying nearby to the spring rushed to the site and dived into the spring.
The residents started searching the duo in the waters, but their efforts failed, as the boys could not be traced. Later, the rescuers went to the depth of the spring and fished out one boy and soon managed to fish out the body of the other boy.
In the meantime, the police also rushed to the spot.
Sources said as both the deceased boys were not showing any movements, police rushed them to Mapusa District Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The bodies were sent to GMC Hospital in Bambolim for autopsy.
