Two Mopa Link Road protesters re-arrested, freed

Two persons who were among the 67 protesters arrested on February 19 on charges of opposing the Mopa Airport Link Road were arrested by police yet again on Wednesday, before being released. Pernem police arrested Vinayak Chari and Narayan Gadekar under Section 151 CrPC on Wednesday noon and while Chari was released at 4.45 pm, Gadekar was released at 6.45 pm.

The arrest of the two protestors was denounced by the Mopa Airport Sangharsh Samiti, Dhargal Shetkari Sanghatana and Goa Suraksha Manch at a press conference in Pernem.

"It is a shameful that the government is treating its own people in such a manner for fighting for their own land. This is violation of basic human rights,” said Narayan Gadekar.Fellow protester, Vinayak Chari, accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of acting like a dictator. Praveen Arlekar, Subhash Kerkar and Bharat Bagkar also spoke at the news conference.
