Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Wednesday expressed shock at the state government notification summoning the Goa Assembly session from March 24 to April 12 while pointing out that these dates coincide with the Christian holy week.
The holy week is between March 28 and April 4.
“Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday will fall within these dates and Maundy Thursday will be a working day. Communal harmony has been protected in Goa so far and one should not try to hurt the religious sentiments of anyone,” Kamat said while urging the government to reconsider this decision.
The Congress had demanded a full-fledged session of 21 working days so as to allow proper discussion on the budget. Kamat said that at the upcoming meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, he will raise this demand once again along with the request to ensure that the dates do not overlap on religious holidays.
