Bicholim police arrested two persons in connection with the burglary of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.30 lakh from Mulgao-Bicholim.
According to police reports, Risha Pednekar of Bagwada-Mulgao had filed a police complaint stating that burglars had broken into her house on September 25 sometime between 1.30 pm and 2.50 pm and had stolen gold ornaments and two watches, all worth Rs 2.3 lakh.
Bicholim police had registered an offence under Section 454, 380 IPC and during investigations, found out from CCTV footage at the Forest check post at Mulgao Par junction that two persons had been found moving suspiciously on a two-wheeler.
Police then obtained the registration number of the scooter and Ismail Shaikh (34) of Mangor Hill in Vasco was taken to the Bicholim police station, where he was placed under arrest.
During interrogation, Shaikh allegedly admitted his involvement in the crime along with Parshuram Olekar of Vijaypur-Karnataka. Three watches were also recovered at the instance of Shaikh.
The mobile tower location of the other accused, Parshuram Olekar, was obtained and it revealed that he had left for his native place.
A police team headed by PSI Deepak Dhetkar was deputed to proceed to Karnataka to trace Olekar.
The police team sought the assistance of the local police and nabbed Olekar at Sindhagi in Vijaypur-Karnataka. He was then brought back to Goa and taken to the Bicholim police station.
During interrogation, Olekar allegedly confessed to the burglary of gold ornaments from the complainant's house and police succeeded in recovering the stolen gold ornaments.
Bicholim LPSI Manisha Pednekar is investigating the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Mahesh Gadekar and guidance of Bicholim SDPO Gurudas Gaude.
