Two signboards erected at same site in Canacona, but no speed-breakers

Locals decry wastage of funds for unnecessary signboards

Two signboards erected at same site in Canacona, but no speed-breakers
Two signboards have been erected at the same site to caution motorists of a non-existent speed-breaker in Canacona.

CANACONA

Erecting 2 signboards at the same site at three different locations to caution motorists of a speed-breaker in Canacona has left residents baffled, but what has invited further ridicule is the fact that there are no speed-breakers at either of these three sites.
The decision by PWD (highways) authorities to erect multiple signboards at the same site in four different instances has annoyed a number of residents in Loliem-Polem.
In the first instance, PWD authorities had erected signboards at three different locations at Dapot-Mashem in Loliem-Polem, cautioning motorists of speed breakers on the NH66 highway between Polem and Gulem.
Sometime later, the NH66 highway between Polem and Gulem was taken up for repairs and the stretch was later hotmixed, covering speed-breakers at all three locations.
Although the speed-breakers were completely covered by the hotmix, the PWD did not remove the earlier speed-breaker signboards and on the contrary, erected a second speed-breaker signboards at all three locations.
In the second instance, two signboards indicating a left turn have been erected at the same site at another location on the NH66 in Loliem-Polem.
“This is sheer wastage of public funds and it highlights the irresponsible behaviour of PWD officials to have allowed duplicate signboards at the same site in two instances. Each of the traffic signboards reportedly costs between Rs 5,000-6,000,” complained Vishant, a local resident.
