Ucassaim decides to revise house tax

Ucassaim Panchayat has decided to revise the house tax within its area and keep the proposal open for one month for objections.
To facilitate revision of the houses tax, the panchayat has decided to classify the houses in three categories: those houses that are 25-years-old, above 25 years and commercial establishments.
Panchayat secretary Clifton Azavedo informed the gram sabha that the revision exercise has been undertaken after the auditor asked the panchayat to revise the house tax, which was not increased since 2000.
“On an average, the house tax has been increased by almost four to five times. The proposal has been kept open up to June-end for objections and suggestions,” the secretary said.
The new house tax will remain in force for the next five years, the secretary further informed.
The secretary informed the gram sabha that anyone who deals in food items has to register with the panchayat and the FDA.
Those who fail to register could be penalized for not complying with the regulations, as per a FDA order, the secretary said.
When Cosme Mathias, a member, inquired about the procedures involved in issuing NOCs to people dealing in food items, he was told that the panchayat initially issued provisional NOCs to such people.
“With the provisional NOCs they obtain other licences but later fail to apply for permanent registration,” the secretary said.
The secretary informed that a special drive will be conducted in the panchayat for registration of Aadhaar cards.
“There will be a vehicle that will be deployed in the panchayat and everyone should take advantage of the facility,” the secretary said.
The secretary also briefed on the new garbage plant at Saligao.
