UGDP calls for lockdown

MARGAO
President of United Goans Democratic Party Dr Jorson Fernandes has said the alarming Covid scenario calls for a planned and strategic lockdown to stem the second Covid-19 wave.

He warned people of letting their guard down against the fast-spreading and less controllable new variant known as double-mutant B.1.617. Wedding celebrations and night parties, coupled with the unregulated entry of tourists and crowding on the beach belts have been responsible for the sudden rise in positive cases.

Dr Jorson said though a lockdown would certainly put pressure on the economy of the State, it can bounce back in no time once everything is brought under control. For now, saving lives is more important, he added.

He said, “The Chief Minister would do well to remember that economy will come back on track, but human lives that are lost cannot be brought back.”
