MARGAO
Addressing the media at the Madel fields where waste from Sonsodo is being dumped for land filling, UGF President Ashish Kamat said that while Goa Forward party claims to be Goemkar and Goemkarponn centric, the party is turning a blind eye to the possible health ramifications for the illegal act they are supporting.
“The UGF had only demanded that the dumping of the untreated mud in the fields of Madel or otherwise be stopped as its will have serious ramifications on the environment and health of citizens. The stink is unbearable and we also know that the mud is part of the contaminated Sonsodo dump. The rains will help the contaminants like lead, arsenic to be leech into the water table which will surely have an effect on the environment and health of the citizens. The Goa Forward, which is now aware that no bio-remediation is being carried out, is waiting for the citizens to fall sick and then take action. This is how Goa Forward party and its MLA are towards the citizens. The Margao Municipal Council Chairperson too is a Goa Forward party member,” Ashish said.
He said it is clear that the TCP Minister has failed in his responsibilities not only towards checking on the tender, but also on the work undertaken wherein no bio-remediation has been undertaken.
Saying that the UGF has only demanded that the dumping of the untreated and contaminated mud be stopped, he said “at no point in time has UGF tried to stop the project of so called bio-remediation.” UGF rather reiterates its stand that it will support any entity who is doing good work for Goa.
