CANACONA
A 72-year-old UK national drowned while his 68-year-old wife was rescued by Dhristi Life Savers at Talpona beach on Friday evening.
According to Canacona police, the UK nationals, Vijay Tulshidas Daswani and his wife, Gean Poole, were swimming at Talpona beach.
They began to drift into the sea and raised an alarm. Others rushed to their aid while Drishti Life Savers went on a jet-ski and pulled both ashore.
Both were given CPR and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona, where doctors declared Vijay Daswani dead. Gean Poole was out of danger.
According to sources, Vijay was an Indian-origin UK national and had married Gean Poole only a year and a half ago. The couple had been on holiday in Goa for the past 15 days, informed police.
The body was sent to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao, and according to Canacona police, the foreign office has been informed, and the post-mortem is likely to be conducted on Saturday.
PSI Dwadesh Dessai is investigating the case under the direct supervision of Canacona PI Harish Raut Dessai.
