Panaji Police Station attack case: Court allows CBI plea

MARGAO

The South Goa Sessions Court has, on Friday, allowed the plea made by the Central Bureau of Investigations in the Panaji Police Station attack case, seeking directions to the Panaji Police to produce the FIR register in the Court.

The application filed by Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate and MLA wife Jennifer Monserrate, seeking directions to the Court to produce the closure report filed by the CBI before the trial court, will be heard at the next date of hearing.

The public prosecutor, Naushad, representing the CBI, has prayed for two weeks’ time to file a reply to the applications filed by the Monserrates, pointing out that the CBI has to call for information from the special Crime Branch, Mumbai, and from the concerned Court from where the closure report is closed.

The defence lawyers, at the last date of hearing, had filed a plea before Sessions Judge Irshad Agha seeking directions to the CBI to produce the closure report in respect of the cross-complaint filed by the Monserrates and others against the police.

Defence lawyer, Adv A Braz D’Sa, drew attention to Judge Agha that while the CBI was told by the Courts to investigate all complaints in the Panaji Police Station attack case, the investigation agency conveniently avoided investigating into the cross-complaint and has filed a closure report before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Panaji.
