Under probe, IGP Garg transferred

Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg has been transferred to Delhi with the Joint Cadre Authority of AGMU Cadre approving his transfer. The approval was communicated to the State government on Saturday.

Garg is an officer from the 1992 batch of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT ) cadre.

His transfer comes in the backdrop of accusations of corruption with a Vasco-based businessman Munnalal Halwai filing a complaint on August 11 with the Anti Corruption Branch of Directorate of Vigilance against the IGP .

Halwai had claimed to be in possession of a 17 minute-long audio of a conversation with the IGP wherein the cop allegedly admits to having accepted the bribe of Rs five lakh to issue directions for registering an FIR.

But he claimed that the ACB, Vigilance has yet to take cognizance of the same and steps have yet to be taken to register an offence under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

In the last week, Halwai had alleged that he was being pressurised by IGP Garg to withdraw the case.
