Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday said underground cabling in all 12 wards of Vasco constituency would be completed within a year.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for work to convert LT overhead lines to underground cables along the Swatantra Path area in Vasco in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, municipal Councillors and officials of the power department.
Speaking to reporters after the function, Dhavalikar said the present overhead lines were laid before 1965.
“While works to replace broken likes had been taken in the past, no one ever tried to take the works to offer a complete solution. Our power department take up works of around Rs 2,000 crore of both LT and HT conductors. These works in Vasco are estimated at Rs 9 crore that will cater to Swatantra Path and other roads in this ward, where every house and establishments will be given electrical connection through underground cables in pipes,” said Dhavalikar.
“We are trying to complete this work in three months and we have also set a target to cover 4-5 wards by December. We are trying to complete underground cabling in all 12 wards across Vasco constituency within a year," said Dhavalikar.
The power minister said works of around Rs 200 crore, including the inauguration of a 50 MVA transformer at Verna, were launched in the presence of all 4 MLAs of Mormugao Taluka and most MLAs from Salcete Taluka.
“We are launching works worth Rs 100 crore on Sunday at Navelim, Margao, Benaulim, Velim, Cuncolim, Quepem and also in Panchawadi at Shiroda and parts of Sanvordem constituency. We have also completed the new substation at Mandrem and it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant," said Dhavalikar.
“Goa will get 150 MW from green energy, including solar energy. We have also decided that talukas having maximum government buildings will be taken under GEDA to produce energy using solar panels," said Dhavalikar.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said the underground cabling work in his Vasco constituency would be taken up in phases.
“We have launched the first phase catering to three main roads of FL Gomes Road, St Joseph Vaz and Swatantra Path. We request people to bear some inconvenience over the next six months when trenching works are taken up to lay underground cables," said Salkar.
