United Against Coal, a frontal organisation, spearing the fight against the three linear projects from the twin villages of Chandor and Guirdolim, will offer a peaceful “Religio-Cultural “Magnem” (prayer services) to the Gods at Chandor, on December 5, at 7 pm.
Members of the organisation will invoke the blessings of the Almighty in the fight against the three-linear projects being pushed by the State and central governments against the wishes of the people of Goa.
The prayer services will take place at the Chandor market square with the historical monuments playing a beautiful background for the services, in this village banked on rich historical, religious and cultural history.
The programme is organised under the umbrella organisation of Goyant Kollso Naka. The programme will start with a short talk by noted historian, Prof Prajal Sakhardande, followed by some cultural presentations by the locals and professionals, finally culminating with the holy ‘Magnem’, held in a traditional manner, keeping in tune with the rich cultural heritage consisting of glorious days as the erstwhile capital of Goa during the Kadamba Empire.
United Against Coal has extended a welcome to Goemkars to witness and participate in the ‘Magnem’ to strengthen the endeavour to save the beautiful Goa for our future generations.
Villagers of Chandor and Guirdolim had launched the ongoing movement against the three linear projects, including the coal transportation and track-doubling on October 2, with an impressive rally signalling the ongoing movement against the government projects.
Chandor, the ancient capital of Goa, was once against in the news last month, when thousands of Goans poured into the village from all corners of the State, for an unprecedented and historic midnight vigil on the railway tracks to stop the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd from going ahead with the laying of the double-track at the Chandor railway crossing.
