The three legislators led colourful Holi celebrations in the port town on Tuesday. Traditional rituals of offering prayers at Lord Damodar temple were followed to kickstart Holi celebrations.

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, who is also the President of Murgao Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS), along with other committee members offered prayers at the temple on Tuesday morning.

This was followed by a grand scale Holi celebration as hundreds thronged to the temple and started applying colors amidst chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Shree Ramanath Damodar Maharaj ki Jai".

A truck with a huge music system and live band belting out various hit songs moved across the city with a procession of several revellers participating in the Holi celebration with great fervour.

Drenched in various colours, several Holi revellers were seen moving around on bikes and open jeeps in the city and several families spent the day by the beach side at Hollant, Bogmalo and Baina.

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said the unity between all three BJP MLAs in Mormugao Taluka signified a colourful Mormugao Taluka.

"We are a united set of BJP MLAs and when we work in coordination, the colours of the Taluka will only be enhanced further and we can see a brighter and colourful future for Mormugao Taluka and Goa as well,” said Godinho.

MNSS President and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said Holi was the festival of unity and celebrated by people across all religions.

“I appeal to all people to take this festival as a platform to keep people united and express their love through colours," said Salkar.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said a traditional ritual of beginning Holi celebration after offering prayers to Lord Damodar had been followed by people over many generations.
