The all India bandh call given by various trade unions shut many units at Bethora Industrial Estate, while it got partial support from Kundaim and Marcaim Industrial Estates. The units in Usgao were operational.

Speaking to The Goan, Bethora Industrial Estate Association president Sunil Kesarkar said majority of the units were shut to support the bandh. “We did not support the bandh, but workers did not turn up for work, due to fear of untoward incidents if they joined duty. Thus, the units were closed,” Kesarkar said.

There are about 60 units in Bethora Industrial Estate, of which 50-odd were closed.

In Usgao, most of the units were open. “Our workers came for work and we could carry out production. Most of the units in Usgao were open,” a manager of a company in Usgao said on condition of anonymity.

The Kundaim Industrial Estate, which has hundreds of industrial units, was partially shut. Some workers had joined duty in the morning, but they left in fear. The companies which have unions had supported the bandh. The workers from small units who do not have unions had reported for duty.

Sources informed that in Marcaim Industrial Estate, very few units were shut.
