OLD GOA
It may be recalled that the panchayat had sent a notice to the PWD recently giving a deadline of May 5 to repair the dug roads.
However, as there was no progress in the repair works of the main road, the panchayat authorities led by Sarpanch Jennifer Oliveira, Deputy Sarpanch Domnic Pereira and other ruling panchas, met Pereira to know the reason behind the delay.
The panchayat authorities opined that with the rains approaching it would create difficulty for the villagers to commute on the main road which, though, dug last December has not been repaired yet.
However, Pereira explained that the repairs have got delayed as the work order has not been granted.
“We have hundreds of files coming to us and it is difficult to keep track of all files. Therefore, someone from the panchayat should follow up on the issue,” Pereira suggested.
After much discussion, Pereira assured that he would work out some solution to the issue so that the dug portion is repaired before rains.
Speaking to The Goan, sarpanch Oliveira highlighted the need for the dug portion of the main road to be repaired on an urgent basis as it is creating a hassle for road users.
Dy Sarpanch Domnic Pereira questioned how other roads, dug much later, got repaired first and posed whether there is any political interference in the matter.
“We had allowed digging of the roads for laying underground power cables but henceforth we will ensure that no road will be dug in Santa Cruz without permission from the panchayat,” Pereira threatened.
Road repairs taken up on urgency basis: MLA Fernandes
OLD GOA: Stating that the roads which needed urgent attention were repaired first, St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes assured that repair work on the main road would also be taken up once the work order is issued.
“The internal roads are narrow and after getting dug for laying power cables it became difficult for commuters. Also, in some areas like Bundh and Aradi, the roads were dug in the middle to avoid water pipelines. Hence, these roads were taken up on an urgent basis for repairs,” Fernandes stated.
On the main road, Fernandes said that the work order has not been issued yet and hence the repairs are pending.
“I am constantly following up the matter with the PWD officials and soon the work order should be issued. I am equally concerned about the matter,” MLA Fernandes added.
