Unruly picnickers damage crops, quarrel in Sattari

On Sunday, about 2000 picnickers flocked to Morle waterfalls and reportedly destroyed hundreds of newly planted cashew saplings and created heaps of garbage.
Chandrakant Gaonkar from Kasarwada-Morle has cashew plantation, but since the onset of flowing of various seasonal waterfalls in his property and the reserve forest area, thousands of picnickers are visiting the waterfalls and creating nuisance by behaving indecently and dumping huge piles of garbage. He has already submitted a memorandum to the Bicholim Deputy Collector's office on July 5 and Deputy Collector Harish Adconkar issued the directives to take action against indecent picnickers at various waterfalls.
"So far nothing concrete has been done to establish law and order in my horticulture plantation and hundreds of newly planted cashew saplings and fully grown cashew trees have been destroyed by the picnickers. On July 16, about 2000 picnickers visited the area and threw empty bottles, cans of alcohol and plastic plates and glasses," said Gaonkar.
Speaking to The Goan, Valpoi excise inspector Amol Harwalkar said they have posted six excise guards at Chorla-Keri, two at Naneli and four at Hedode. "Necessary staff will be appointed during the weekend at Kasarwada, Morle," he said.
