Unusual move: Plastic barriers fixed on Gulem culvert bridge

PWD’s move poses serious threat to vehicular traffic

In an unusual move, the PWD (NH) engineers have placed plastic spring post barriers, normally used as road dividers, at the Gulem bridge on the NH66 highway in place of the broken protection railings.

The Gulem bridge near Hotel Sudarshan has its side railings on either side of the culvert bridge broken and destroyed. Since then, the bridge had no safety railings on either side, posing a serious threat to vehicles.

PWD (NH) has come with an unusual idea of securing the bridge sides by placing the plastic spring post barriers.

According to a source in the PWD, the plastic spring post barriers play an important role to divert/guide traffic and to provide necessary directions, besides warning of approaching hazards.

“These reflective posts are fitted in place of the broken railing to warn motorists of safety hazard beyond the posts. No one should consider these posts as road-dividers and attempt to proceed beyond the posts, but should safely ride/drive on the road to avoid falling over the culvert bridge,” the source said.
