Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat hopped from one ward to another in his constituency on Sunday, for a different reason “ to commemorate the birth anniversary of BJP’s towering personality, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
This is perhaps the first time in the last 17 years that Kamat has participated in the birth anniversary celebration of Upadhyaya.
He along with seven other Congress MLAs, including Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, had embraced the saffron party earlier this month.
In his address to BJP workers, Kamat recalled how Upadhyaya had laid the foundation stone for the growth of the BJP in the country.
“Upadhyaya was one of the greatest leader of the erstwhile Jan Sangh. He along with then Jan Sangh President Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had laid the foundation stone for the steady growth of the BJP across the country. Under their leadership, the party had won over 27 Lok Sabha in the year 1967,” Kamat said.
“If the BJP is in power at the centre and in the states, the credit goes to these leaders,” he added.
Notably, the occasion gave the Margao MLA an opportunity to interact with the BJP workers across the wards since his entry into the party.
