Cuncolim Municipal councillor Udesh Desai on Monday demanded suspension of Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer for what he termed as a derogatory remark made against him by the officer.
Udesh along with a group of councillors and his supporters assembled near the entrance of the Municipal building, but was stopped by the police from entering the building.
He along with his supporters was protesting against the “criminal” remark allegedly made by the Chief Officer at him in a letter to the Director of Municipal Administration on his demand for an inquiry on missing files.
CMC Chairperson Laximan Naik later said that the Chief Officer clarified that she did not intend to call the councillor a criminal, but had only mentioned that the councillor had allegedly indulged in criminal intimidation.
Saying councillor Udesh is part of the ruling body, the chairperson said the council will take a decision only after the councillor moves a resolution demanding suspension of the Chief Officer. “The Council meeting is scheduled in next five days. Let the council decide on the resolution for the suspension of the Chief Officer”, Naik added.
Udesh pointed out that he had moved the DMA over the missing files in the Civic body. “I had come across many files going missing in the civic body over the last five years. I had contested the election to take up the issue with the hapless citizens. And, when I was pursing the matter with the DMA office, the Chief Officer passed the ‘criminal’ remark at me”, he alleged.
