A group of citizens led by Shadow Council of Margao chief, Savio Coutinho and others made their presence felt in the civic body to protest against the municipal officials insisting on sanitation fees along with trade license, only to find that Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai and Chief Officer Y B Tawde were conspicuous by their absence.
Upset over the absence of the chairperson and the chief officer, the agitated citizens confronted the OSD to the chairperson, demanding to know how the council can levy the sanitation fees when the chairperson had assured the citizens last month to keep the proposal on hold.
When The Goan contacted Chief officer Y B Tawde to shed light on the development, he said that municipal officials manning the taxation section have denied having insisted on commercial establishment owners to pay the sanitation fees along with the trade license. Tawde, however, said that he has again reminded the municipal officials in the taxation section to ensure that they do not levy sanitation fees on commercial establishments till the chairperson and the council take a final decision on the matter.
The citizens have called upon the council to have clear-cut policies.
