Locals protest against parking of night soil tankers along roadside outside plant
MARGAO
Sirvodem witnessed an uproar on Saturday following a minor road accident as the local residents protested against the parking of night soil tankers along the roadside outside the sewerage treatment plant.
As a three-member family travelling on a two-wheeler met with an accident after the vehicle hit a roadside night soil tanker after negotiating the side with an oncoming vehicle, local residents took to the streets to lodge a protest against the parking by night soil tankers.
Margao Municipal ward councillor Mahesh Amonkar also joined the local residents in demanding no parking by the night soil tankers along the roadside outside the STP.
A local resident Antush Rodrigues told the media that the night soil tankers park outside the STP after unloading sewage into the plant for treatment. “We have no objection if the night soil tankers come to the STP to unload sewage. But, they cannot come out and park the vehicles along the road. If they have any issues, the owners should park their tankers inside the STP,” he said.
Councillor Mahesh Amonkar echoed similar sentiments saying the night soil tankers cannot be parked along the roadside outside the STP. “Let the tanker owners park their vehicles inside the STP complex. I have taken up the matter with the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to ensure that the night soil tankers are not parking outside the STP,” Mahesh said.
