A resident of Usgao Ganjem has sued a fellow villager for Rs 1 crore for allegedly defaming him in the gram sabha and on a local channel.
Naik has filed the defamation suit in a local court and the hearing will take place on April 7.
In his suit, the defendant had given an interview to a local channel alleging that the plaintiff had taken Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 towards registration of an illegal house in the panchayat jurisdiction for the purpose of house tax.
It may be recalled that villagers had alleged in one Usgao Ganjem gram sabha that a former panch member had taken a bribe to regularise illegal houses, but had failed to register these.
Present sarpanch Tulshidas Prabhu then appealed to the villagers to give a written complaint in the matter.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant had mentioned his name in the gram sabha and then gave an interview to the local channel.
“The defendant deliberately gave a false interview to the local channel only after I left the gram sabha,” said the plaintiff.
