After deciding to contest as an independent from the Panaji constituency, Utpal Parrikar on Saturday met former mayor Uday Madkaikar to seek his support.
While Parrikar claimed that Madkaikar has assured support, Madkaikar has not said anything in public.
"As I have decided to contest elections, I have started meeting various leaders in order to get support. I am receiving support from various sections of people,” said Parrikar.
Madkaikar was an aide of Panaji MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate before he decided to join the Congress party.
However, Congress did not consider him for the Panaji ticket and instead, gave it to Elvis Gomes.
Upset by the Congress party’s decision, Madkaikar said he had two options, either to support Parrikar or to contest as an independent candidate. Madkaikar is likely to disclose his decision by Sunday.
