Valanka begins poll drive at Navelim, Churchill by her side

MARGAO
The election scene is getting hotter in Navelim, which is presently without an MLA after Luizinho Faleiro resigned from the membership of the Goa Legislative Assembly last week.

Days after Luizinho quit the Congress, Valanka Alemao stepped up her campaign in Navelim ahead of the 2022 election.

Accompanied by father Churchill, who had represented Navelim in 2007, the father-daughter duo addressed a meeting at Zoriwada in Davorlim village, kick starting their election campaign for Navelim on Sunday.

The duo asserted that Valanka will throw her hat in the Navelim election ring, but did not say if she would contest as an Independent or for a party.

While Valanka left it to her father who remained silent on the question if daughter will contest as an Independent or on a party symbol.

Wooing the electorate, Valanka said Navelim has been dear to their hearts. She recalled how Churchill had taken development work in Navelim after getting elected on the SGF banner in 2007.

In his address, Churchill said the Congress had cleared Valanka’s candidature when he and the SGF party had merged with the Congress, but the proposal could not be implemented for some reasons.

“Valanka wants to enter politics to serve the people and not for her family. The people of Davorlim had supported me in 2007 and I am confident you will support my daughter in the coming election”, he said.

The meeting was addressed by former Velim MLA Farrel Furtado, former ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, former TelaulimSarpanch Duarte Pires, Leon Raikar and others.
