Acting on directives of the high court, the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) on Tuesday demolished some illegal structures in the municipality. A demolition squad razed the structures in the presence of officials and a police team.
According to information, a resident had filed a petition in the High Court in 2017 against the illegal constructions in the municipal area. The high court had directed authorities to demolish the illegal constructions.
The VMC Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane went to the site on Tuesday morning along with a demolition squad comprising municipal and PWD workers to demolish the illegal structures. A police team was present to prevent any untoward incident. The demolition was delayed due to a breakdown in the machinery and the work resumed in the afternoon.
Later speaking to media persons, VMC Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane said the structures were illegal as permissions had not been obtained from the municipal council. “We have fully complied with the order of the high court,” said Rane.
