Vangodd at Saligao's Sao Joao
SALIGAO: Villagers of Saligao, organised 'Vangodd' on occasion of Sao Joao on Sunday.
The festival was eco-friendly, respecting life, nature and environment. Instead of jumping in wells, all the 14 ‘waddos’ of Saligao got together and displayed their unity through cultural programme comprising of Goan folk dances and songs.
The programme was organized in the compound of Mae de Deus Church Saligao by the parish youth and people participated in the festival. After the cultural programme, free food was served to the people on ‘patraovol’ and pej in coconut shells. Each waddo had cooked food for 100 people.
Fr Mateus Rodrigues said the purpose of the festival was to bring the villagers of Saligao together and create awareness on water, environment and cleanliness.
In the evening, a football match was organised to highlight that there is no football ground in Saligao. Parish youth president Hubert D’Costa said this was the first time the festival was organised in Saligao.
