"I've told Higher Education Director to withdraw both these permissions and ask them to go only for Goans. If they cannot get Goans, then they can approach us," said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the Floor of the House.
Goa University had approached the State Government earlier asking them to relax these norms as there were no candidates available to fill various posts in the University.
"As far as Higher Education and University are concerned, we do not get qualified candidates from Goa. So, many a time there are posts vacant. University had approached us with these problems and we had sent them a letter conveying approval of the government to relax the domicile and language requirement for appointment of teachers subject to if and only if local eligible candidates are not available," said Parrikar adding, "This means that first you have to ascertain yourself that local eligible candidate is not available."
He also informed that government sent another letter to avoid misinterpretation of the earlier letter. Reading the excerpts of the letter, Parrikar said, "As regard to knowledge of Konkani and minimum 15 years of domicile if no eligible candidate is available to fill the vacancy then university
should seek relaxation from the government on case to case basis."
