The service was launched in the presence of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik, MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, councilors, heads of departments and officials of Kotak Mahendra Bank.
Addressing the gathering, Almeida commended the council for its efforts to implement a people-friendly service.
“During the last one year, the council has worked as a team and managed to recover most of the outstanding revenue,” said Almeida.
This service, which is free for citizens in the port town, will help them pay their tax online and save them the trouble of visiting the municipal council.”
“Once awareness is created about the online service, more people will start paying their dues online and this will also lessen the workload of the administrative and taxation staff,” Almeida added.
Commenting on the Swachh Bharat campaign, Almeida claimed that though the council has taken the initiative to implement the campaign in every ward, it would take sometime for the initiate to fall in place.
Almeida appealed to residents in the port town to cooperate with the council by handing over their garbage to the door-to-door collector at a nominal amount, instead of throwing garbage by the roadside. MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik stated that the online tax payment service is free of cost and people could pay their dues from home.
Commenting on the completion of one year of the new council, Naik said the council had worked as a team and had managed to recover outstanding dues to the tune of Rs 6 crore.
“With the help of MLA Carlos Almeida, the council managed to get Rs 1.1 crore from the government, due to which the council settled all their dues of those who retired in 2013-14,” he said.
