Speaking to The Goan AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa Digvijaya Singh stated, “PEC will be preparing candidates list for all 40 seats. We had two meetings previously. Recommendations have come in from the block and district level organisations. PEC will meet again tomorrow and we shall go through each Assembly candidate to see who the best candidate would be.”
The senior Congressman also sought to highlight that of the names received from the two District Congress committees, almost 60 to 70 per cent are fresh faces.
Confirming this, GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro stated, “Over the last two days, we received a total of 113 names from both the District Committees.
District committees’ reports were put in format and were thereafter submitted to PEC members. We had discussions regarding the criteria and the guidelines for selection of candidates for the ensuing polls.”
Announcement of Congress candidates is likely to begin by the end of November or the first half of December, Faleiro hinted.

MARGAO:  Two days after he set a 15-day deadline on the Congress leadership to take a call on his candidature for the Cuncolim seat, supporters of former two-time Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao on Thursday called on AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh and made a strong case for the party ticket.
A delegation of Cuncolim council deputy Mario Moraes and Councilor Shashank Dessai submitted a memorandum signed by many a panchayat and municipal representatives from constituency demanding nomination of Joaquim Alemao as the Congress candidate for the Cuncolim seat to defeat the BJP with a huge margin.
“We are 100 per cent sure that the Congress party will win the Cuncolim seat with ease if Joaquim is given the Congress ticket or else majority of the people will force him to contest the coming election with or without the Congress ticket,” the memorandum stated.
