A Vasco resident has complained that he was cheated of Rs 25.74 lakh after being promised the sale of a residential flat at Dabolim. He later found that no sale deed was executed and the money was not returned.

Police said the complainant, Piedade Nunes Furtado of Vaddem, Vasco, was induced to pay the amount between December 5, 2022 and December 14, 2023 at Vaddem.

The accused, Richard Swamy and Rajeshwari Achari, both residents of Chicalim, allegedly assured him that they would sell him a used, unfurnished 2 BHK flat at Prabhu’s Signature, Dabolim.

As per the complaint, Furtado paid the money on different occasions as a token amount for the flat, based on the assurances given by the accused.

However, despite receiving the full amount, the accused did not execute any sale deed in his favour.

They also failed to return the money, which led the complainant to believe that he had been deliberately misled.

He has alleged that the two acted together and dishonestly induced him to make the payments, and then misappropriated the entire amount, causing him a loss of Rs 25.74 lakh.

Based on the complaint, Vasco police have registered a case under sections 316(2), 318(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mayur Sawant under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
