Vasco man held for brutally murdering wife at Dodamarg

PANAJI
In a shocking incident emerging from Dodamarg, an employee with the Goa Electricity Department Vinod Naik has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Vishita. The accused, who hails from Vasco, reportedly took his wife to Bhatwadi near Tillari on the pretext of an outing and subsequently strangled her to death with the help of his friend, Ruturaj Ingwale who is also taken into custody.

As per the police, the heinous act did not stop there, as the accused then smashed Vishita’s face with a stone, leaving her face beyond recognition.

Sources said the accused committed the crime on Monday night and dumped the body in the nullah, which was discovered by the locals there. “The villagers on noticing the body floating in the nullah alerted the Dodamarg police who took over the investigation. Her belongings raised suspicion that she could be hailing from Goa after which the Dodamarg police contacted their counterparts in Goa,” said an official.

On inquiring, the Mapusa police confirmed that a missing person’s complaint was lodged and the photograph matched the deceased. The complaint was filed by her friend on Tuesday after she failed to respond to calls or reply to texts. A team of Dodamarg police rushed to Goa and within eight hours, they traced the accused who confessed to having committed the crime.

The victim, originally from Bicholim had married Vinod in 2015 and they have a girl child together. However, they had been living apart for some time, which caused frustration and anger in her husband. Consequently, he devised a plan to carry out her murder. On the fateful evening, she was with her friend in Mapusa but later accompanied Vinod on his repeated requests for an outing and dinner.

While the reason behind the heinous crime is believed to be an extramarital affair, police have booked the accused on charges of murder under section 302, destruction of evidence under section 201 and other relevant sections of the IPC.
