Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Tuesday launched the works of rehabilitation of sewer line using trenchless technology in Mormugao taluka near the State Bank of India, Urvashi Hotel in Vasco and Ambabai Temple in Mangor.
Almeida launched the works in the presence of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, former minister Rajendra Arlekar, MMC ward councillor and other dignitaries.
Speaking to media after the launch, he said the works were taken up at a cost of around Rs 2.16 crore and as part of the project, sewerage lines in other areas would also be replaced. “The sewer lines from the State Bank of India to Avisha Residency (172 mtrs), from Urvashi Hotel to Kharewado road (152 mtrs) and from Shree Ambabai Temple to Hanuman Temple road (204 mtrs) will be replaced and rehabilitated as part of the project,” he informed.
Almeida said sewage was the most important aspect and there have been issues relating to its network all over. “I am happy that the government has sanctioned the amount for the project and that it was done in the presence of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik,” he added.
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik said that the works which incorporate trenchless technology will replace and rehabilitate around 528 mtrs of the sewer lines. “This project has been taken up as part of the Swachha Bharat initiative, he said.
Lauding the Vasco MLA he said, “Almeida has taken up an important project because the ground reality is that at many places we cannot have sewerage lines. Also, because of the existing tenements, lines cannot be laid. This new trenchless technology will help us place sewerage lines without actually excavating the ground. New bigger pipes will be placed after replacing smaller pipes through this project.”
Ward councillor Pascoal D’Souza said that the work on sewerage network was very important and thanked Almeida.
“Residents have faced choked up sewerage lines. I appeal to the people of the area to make the best use of the project and take new sewerage connections. I also want the Government to look at legalising the houses in the area if possible,” said D’Souza.
