Vasco police station is 1st in State to have mother, child facility

 VASCO

Vasco police station on Monday became the first police station in the State to have a special Mother and Child facility, besides a guest room.

The facility, which has been set up with the help of the Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town, was inaugurated by DGP Indra Dev Shukla in the presence of SP South Abhishek Dhaniya, DySP Nilesh Rane, DySP Salim Shaikh, Vasco PI Nitin Halarnkar, members of the Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town and other police officials.

Speaking to reporters, DGP Shukla said the inauguration of the Mother and Child facility was done on the eve of International Women's Day to create a facility for mothers and their children.

"The initiative was taken with the help of Rotary Club so that mothers can be stress-free even if their children accompany them to the police station, thus making the police more women and child friendly.”

“Women and children should feel safe and free to visit the police station, even with their children, to get themselves heard in case of grievances or filing a complaint.”

“While Vasco is the first police station to have such a facility, we will get these facilities in other police stations as well, especially along the coastal belt, where female tourists are sometimes forced to keep their children in hotels if they have to lodge a police complaint," said DGP Shukla.

‘Rooms at Vasco PS for faculty, resource persons’

VASCO: DGP Indra Dev Shukla said rooms have been set up at the Vasco police station for faculty and resource persons.

“With the latest technology, police need faculty and resource persons for cybercrime and forensic crimes. We cannot afford to book high profile hotels for such guests who are well-equipped and well-trained to help police in various crimes that required technological assistance.”

“Hence, we have set up a guest room facility which will be a training cum guest stay arrangements to train police of the entire Vasco division. We have a guest room facility in Panaji, Porvorim and now, in Vasco," said DGP Shukla.

DGP stresses on CCTV network for port town

VASCO: DGP Indra Dev Shukla stressed a need for a strong network of around 100-200 CCTVs for Vasco City.

“The police want to offer good security to various installations in Vasco and to keep Vasco safe. While police are doing their job, we will hold discussions with various stakeholders on how to further enhance the security and safety.”

“We suggest that the entire city of around 3 km have a strong network of around 100-200 CCTVs.”

“DySP Nilesh Rane already convened one meeting with locals and stakeholders on the issue of CCTV cameras. Many people have already approached me for sponsors of CCTVs because we cannot always depend on the government for such needs,” said DGP Shukla.

He said the police is also of the opinion that trucks and heavy vehicles should use the other route via the 4-lane port connectivity bridge and avoid moving from the city.

“We will also discuss this with various stakeholders. Vasco has maximum business houses, many vital installations, port, airport and is a beautiful city. We want the people to feel safe and secure," said DGP Shukla.
