A group of locals filed a complaint against some social media users for allegedly circulating obscene and derogatory contents of Hindu deities.
On Saturday evening, a large crowd gathered and marched to the police station, demanding immediate action against those responsible for posting provocative material online.
According to complainants, certain individuals deliberately shared offensive posts, vulgar comments, and objectionable content on Facebook and Instagram, including during live streams of religious events. Multiple social media users have reportedly been named in the complaint.
The protest comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding YouTuber Gautam Khattar’s alleged derogatory remarks against St. Francis Xavier, which had already triggered statewide outrage.
One resident alleged that the objectionable posts were being made by people from another religion. Protesters said comments targeting Lord Parshuram, Lord Ram, and Goddess Lairai had deeply hurt their sentiments.
“We have lived in peace and harmony for decades and wish to continue doing so. Any attempt to create communal disharmony will not be tolerated,” said one protester.
Responding to the crowd, South Goa SP Gurudas Kadam assured that the matter would be discussed with senior officials before further action is taken. He also informed residents that a similar complaint had already been filed at Mapusa Police Station.
Citizens urged police to act firmly, stating that such content could disturb communal harmony in Goa.
