Vegetable supplies from across the border stabilised to some extent, bringing some relief to people, especially when the Hindu brethren are observing the auspicious month of Shravan.
However, though the markets have received fresh supplies, the rates continued to remain on a higher side.
The hustle and bustle returned to Margao’s Gandhi Market “ South’s Goa main vegetable market “ after traders started receiving fresh supplies since last evening.
The rates of some of the variety of vegetables have come down compared to the price prevailing in the last three days, but were still higher.
Traders pointed out that fresh supplies have brought down the rates. Take for instance, the price of tomatoes -- a kilogram commanded a value of Rs 80 in the market on Friday. The price has since come down to Rs 50 as of Saturday.
While customers maintained that the price of vegetables are still on the higher side, traders pointed out that the rates will come down once the supply stabilizes completely.
Vegetable prices had skyrocketed in the markets across the state in the last three days after Belagavi and other parts of Karnataka were cut off following the floods.
