With Belagavi totally out of bounds on Sunday due to the ‘Janata Curfew’ declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Goa is unlikely to get its supply of vegetables from Belagavi for the next three days.

According to wholesale suppliers, all traders, businessmen and wholesale vegetable suppliers will also totally shut down on Sunday as a mark of support to the ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday.

With Monday being the weekly off day, vegetable supplies to Belagavi will resume only on Tuesday evening and as a result, Goa will get its fresh vegetable supplies only on Wednesday.

“As farmers are also observing the Janata Curfew, day there will be no supplies of vegetables in Belagavi wholesale market on Sunday. Moreover, Monday is our weekly off day and we expect supplies to limp back to normalcy only on Tuesday. As such, Goa will get its fresh supplies on only on Wednesday,” said Shrikant Pote, a leading supplier to Goa.

Meanwhile, there were reports of Karnataka vehicles being blocked by Goan officials at the border and only about 10 trucks of vegetables left for Goa on Saturday afternoon.

“We urge Goan authorities not to stop entry to vegetable vehicles or else, the people of Goa will suffer,” Pote said, citing reports of vegetable vehicles allegedly being stopped by Goa police.

Meanwhile, Belagavi will be out of bounds on Sunday as all establishments including restaurants, bars, shops, transport services, etc. are expected to remain shut down. Only essential services and hospitals are expected to remain in operation.
