Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Saturday pointed out that the double tracking project is being laid by the Railways to transport coal and not to augment passenger traffic on the sector.
Referring to a letter written by the Railway Board to the South Western Railway on a proposal to run a weekend special with one Vista dome coach between UBL-Vasco section of the SWR, Cruz said the Railway Board in the letter had made a clear mention that running of the train will affect the coal path in the UBL-Vasco section.
He, however, said the South Western Railway has requested the Railway Board to approve the proposal for the running of the weekend special to lift the image of the Railways and cater to the additional earnings of this railway. “The correspondence between the Railway Board and the South Western Railway clearly shows that the double tracking line is being laid for the movement of coal on the section,” Cruz asserted, while demanding scrapping of the three linear projects.
