Former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sanghchalak Subhash Velingkar who was asked to speak at the Save Mhadei meeting was booed by a certain section of the crowd who apparently were not happy that he was given the chance to speak.
When Velingkar started to speak, the crowd started booing him, with some also starting to leave the venue.
Apparently, it appeared that the crowd was still smarting from the controversy created by Velingkar regarding St Francis Xavier being called as ‘Goencho Saib’.
In 2022, Velingkar had caused a stir by arguing that the sixteenth century saint whose relics lie at the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa and is revered in the State cannot be called 'Goencho Saib' and that the real Goencho Saib was Lord Parshuram.
