Verna police have arrested four people in connection with an extortion case.
According to sources in Verna police station, Verna police received a complaint on Saturday from one Kenneth Saldanha (41) from Arossim that he was receiving threatening calls for extortion of money and that he could be killed if the money was not paid to the extortionists.
Acting on the complaint, Verna police began investigations immediately and on late Saturday night arrested three persons “ Salim Dodamani (24), Imam Behatti (19) and Khurrum Hussain (36) on the basis of the complaint.
Though it was not known where these people were from, they have been living in Goa for many years.
After the Verna police began to interrogate the accused, they realised that the trio were hired by a 65-year-old lady Vira Falcao to extort the money from the complainant Kenneth Saldanha.
Verna police later arrested Vira Falcao on Sunday and are carrying out further investigation.
Verna police realised that Falcao and Saldanha were relatives and may have had some business rivalry.
Meanwhile the trio who were arrested on Saturday were produced before the court and have been granted 12 days police custody,” said the source. PSI Shreedhar Kamat of Verna police is further investigating the case under the supervision of PI Harish Madkaikar.
