Gram sabha members of Loutolim village panchayat on Sunday expressed fears over the lethargic attitude of the authorities in cracking the whip against persons involved in the illegal mining of sand near Borim Bridge.

The members also raised the issue of the reinforcing of the earth wall of the Missing Link at Angdi, Loutolim, expressing fears that the same may collapse any time causing damage to life and property.

At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes, members pointed out that illegal sand mining is taking place near Borim bridge using pumps along the bunds.

While lamenting over the indifference of the authorities, the gram sabha members expressed fears that not only the bunds could collapse, but the foundation of the Borim bridge could be affected if no action is taken by the authorities.

On the missing link issue, the sarpanch briefed the gram sabha over the joint inspection carried out recently and the stop work order issued immediately to bring all work to a halt.

He said that letters along with the inspection report and photograph have been forwarded to the Chief Minster, South Goa Collector, Principal Chief Engineer and other concerned authorities, demanding joint inspection along with experts. Members demanded that the work on the missing link should not resume until a safety audit and a rectification plan is put in place.

The Gram Panchayat Development Plan 20-21 was discussed at the meeting, wherein it was resolved to review the earlier proposals along with fresh proposals on January 26.

The gram sabha has resolved to appoint supervisors, install CCTV and notice boards at the black spots, file FIRs and fine the perpetrators involved in dumping garbage.

It was further resolved to install CCTV cameras at various entry and exit points, major junctions in the jurisdiction of Loutolim village panchayat for security reasons, curb anti-social activities and help the authorities in times of need.

While the gram sabha resolved to appoint a professional to undertake renovation of the panchayat ghar, the meeting also resolved to put a website of the panchayat in place to ensure transparency.
